I read in the newspaper on the weekend that BBC2 have now got their hands on Kath and Kim (Australian comedy) and that the first episode was aired the other week.
Just wondering if any of you watched it, and if so what did you think?

It's very popular here and we're all proud of it (apparently), hence why it made it into the news!
It also said in the paper that it had the same number of viewers as the first episode of the office had when it was first aired.

It was heavily hyped, but had been on before so I didn't watch it.

I've watched a couple of Aussie comedies on the Paramount Channel: Skithouse (OK) and The Micalleff Programme, which has 2 of my all-time favourite sketches in, but was pretty patchy.

Robbie - I agree about the Micalleff Programme, but i really really disliked skithouse. I didn't realise they had been shown overseas...seems an odd choice as they weren't particularly big here.

My very first live comedy show had both Glenn Robbins ( Kath's boyfriend/husband)and Peter Rowsthorne (Kim's boyfriend). I fell in love with comedy that night. They were brilliant!

Kath and Kel "riverdancing" is the highlight for me.

I think the two are comic geniuses. If
you like The Royle Family you will
probably like this. And like that
series, they have quit while they're
ahead - a good sign rather than try
and thrash a good thing.

I'm not a huge fan of Kath and Kim, though naturally they have slipped into the lexicon already "Look at me Kimmie, look at me"

Of note to all my fans *g* - the shopping centre where all the outdoor shots are done is about 5 streets over from where I live - it is in fact Southland though I think they label it as fountaingate (which is a different shopping centre)

I have to defend skithouse to some degree - if only for the fact that a number of the comedians on it were peopel I once knew. The boys from Tripod are better suited to their live on stage stuff but all in all some of the stuff on skithouse is quite funny and cleverly written. I would love to see skithouse without the censorship of public television - unfortunately it is scripted for just that!

I think the UK sketch shows are far funnier than any others - but that is just IMO for all that matters

Then again I was to see the aristocrats when it comes out so no accounting for taste I guess
